Barnes-Kasson Hospital is currently in the process of installing a sprinkler system throughout the entire facility. Per government regulations, it is required that all hospitals and nursing homes be equipped with a sprinkler system. Construction of the sprinkler system began in April, by Beach Lake Sprinkler Corp., and is expected to be completed by the end of November. The Skilled Nursing Facility portion of the system was finished in August.
The sprinkler system is a great addition to Barnes-Kasson Hospital, as it will provide assurance in the unlikely event of a fire. The system consists of almost 1,000 sprinkler heads, located all throughout the facility including hallways, stairwells, patient/resident rooms, and doctor’s offices. In order for the sprinkler system to activate, a sprinkler head needs to be heated to 150-200 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on the location of the head, and then 250 gallons of water will be pumped out per minute.
